Don’t think we’re resting…. We are hard at work coming up with fresh ideas for the reopening of Brewd. This layered coconut cream cake is simply delicious and might be a menu item when we get into our new home. This is just one of the items we are working on to spruce up our menu!

How about a slice of this in the evening as an after work or late evenng treat? Did we mention how well it goes with coffee? It might just be perfect for breakfast too! These beautiful cakes could also be available for sale – by the cake – for celebrations at your home!

We are taking input from our customers. Now is the time, if you have a special request for a new menu item.

Trying out new food is hard work! We will share here, as we come up with more possibilities.

It’s been a week since we closed the doors of Brewd downtown. Change can be hard. We were sad to leave the beautiful space we built and that our customers enjoyed, but sometimes change is inevitable. We are who we are. Phil and Kate grew up in Tucson and made it our home (once we were presumably grown up). But we are outdoorsy people. We are bicyclists, runners (well, maybe runner/walker), hikers, … We love the outdoors! We love the diversity of Tucson. We love the mountains and sunshine!

While we were in downtown, we came to love the people, as well as all there is to do and see there. Having spent most of our lives on the East side of Tucson, we weren’t “downtown people”. But we made some fantastic friends there! What we did not love were the parking issues, construction and, mostly, uncertainty. As a small, emerging, “mom and pop” business, unstable environments make success almost impossible. We are not easily discouraged, tho.

We hosted some of the best local musical talent and even some talent from outside of Tucson. We displayed some diverse, beautiful and enchanting art on our vast wall-space. Best of all, we served some of the best local coffee and espresso drinks and some really yummy food while making some great friends (loyal customers)! We know there are numerous people who braved the traffic, construction and parking, just to visit our venue downtown. We were blessed and humbled!

After a year of much slower growth than expected, we faced a decision. Do we “tough it out” and hope that someday things would change downtown or do we close and chalk it up to experience? Even with redoing our sales and costs projections, we did not see recovering our start up costs anytime soon. This is where uncertainty can kill a small business. How does one project 3-5 years out without knowing what will happen in their immediate environment? Enter Option #3: close downtown and reopen somewhere else. Did we mention we are not easily discouraged? We chose Option #3.

Our new space will be smaller to start, but easier to access. The views are incredible! We will be bicycle-friendly (just like downtown) and have plenty of outdoor seating.

Brewd will be “new and improved”. It will take a few months for the space to be built out but we aren’t resting too much during this time. We are upgrading our complete menu and processes and, hopefully, providing greater variety, value and quality.

Now, can you guess the location of the new place? We hope to open by the end of July or beginning of August. In the meantime, give us your input. What has been your favorite menu item? What musical act would you like to have us book in the new space? What special events would you like to see us have (board game night, fundraisers, dancing) at the new space? We are even open to constructive criticisms. What, if anything, would you have us change for the new place? Let us know. We’ll be here… working.
